History
Working at the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, John established the Nonprofit Legal Assistance Project, providing legal assistance to more than 60 nonprofits for more than 20 years. He did so with passion and compassion and all who knew him considered him a cherished friend. He was honored many times by the nonprofit community for his professionalism, his humility, and his zest for life and for the underserved.
“His outstanding legal skills, creative talents, coupled with his compassion for our clients and commitment to equal access to justice for all residents of our community was an inspiration to the board and staff at Legal Aid as well as to the numerous members of the non-profit community whom he served through the Non-Profit Legal Assistance Project,” said Bob Bertisch, executive director of the Legal Aid Society.
In August 2019, John was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a cancer of the brain. He valiantly struggled with his disease for almost 18 months, but sadly for all of us who knew him, loved him, benefitted from his friendship or his years of good works, this was a fight he could not win.
The Nonprofit Chamber of Palm Beach County has established the John A. Foley, Esq. Legal Scholarship Fund to honor a man who dedicated his life and career to the nonprofit community in Palm Beach County. Click here to donate to this fund.
